Please see the following for an update on our pool situation:

This afternoon at Council Workshop, staff provided Maple Ridge Council with an update on the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre renovation. During the update, Council was made aware that Chandos while completing ongoing work within the pool area, discovered structural support issues in the original part of the aquatics facility. After a thorough investigation by a structural engineering firm, 11 pillars on the pool deck were identified for repair or replacement.

Due to this unforeseen impact to the construction phase, the estimated re-opening of the aquatics area and change room has been pushed back to early 2020. The reno project team will continue to look for opportunities to find ways to reduce this projection and shorten the timeline wherever feasible. Hammond Pool will remain open until mid-September or longer if weather permits. Chris and I will be working closely with you and your club coaches to continue booking your training time at neighboring pools until the LC reopens.

I understand this is difficult information to hear. Staff investigated numerous alternatives, in conjunction with the architect and construction company, to expedite the timeline however at this time the projection is early 2020.

Please don’t hesitate to call or email if you have any immediate questions.

Thank you for your understanding,

Christa Balatti
